Setup, Take Two

10 x 11,5 cm
I know I did some things differently in this one, but I can't compare the two setups until the four are finished, or I'll have to sleep in the cellar. :-)

Setup

10 x 11,5 cm
There will be three more paintings, about a week apart, from this setup.  Once a painting is complete, I'm not supposed to look at it until all four are done.  The hardest part is to remember not to move anything, including the lamp I often use.  I put the mug on a box, hoping that would be a good sign for me that it's not the one that holds my drink this time.

Eggs

11,5 x 8,5 cm

I like the movie "Finding Forrester".    Forrester (Sean Connery) agreed to teach Jamal (Rob Brown) about writing.  Jamal sat down at the typewriter to write, but just sat.  Forrester asked him what he was doing, and Jamal answered, "I'm just thinking".  Forrester:  "No thinking - that comes later.  You must write your first draft with your heart.  You rewrite with your head.  The first key to writing is... to write, not to think!"
"Sometimes the simple rhythm of typing gets us from page one to page two."

My interpretation, translating it to painting, is that Sean Connery would tell me to paint with my heart.  Then refine (without suffocating what's painted).  The first key to painting is... to paint, not to think.
The simple rhythm of painting gets us from painting one to painting two.

Pepper Shaker

aceo
It has a "P" on the lid.
I've been looking for glass salt and pepper shakers for painting, and when I saw this one in the store, it was pretty much what I had in mind.  But it was the only one.  I put salt in it because I need a salt shaker more often than a pepper shaker.
The dangerous thing is that I Googled pepper shaker (only because I live in Germany, where small words are combined into gargantuan words, and I couldn't remember if this was one word or two), and found a beautiful set of pewter and glass shakers from Italy.  Oh oh.

Come Forward

My intention was to paint roses in the basket, but it was more interesting when the gourd came forward..

Lean On Me

18 x 34,5 cm This guy had two sections when I brought him home. When a third section appeared, he started tipping over, so I removed the new one. And kept doing so with subsequent growth. But one day, when I wasn't looking, there came a few new ones and I didn't have the heart to take them off. I leaned him the right direction against the window for support, and everything is fine.

Warty

13,5 x 15 cm I love gourds with their warty lumps. It's probably no accident they are in season with witches.

Clown

We went to the circus this summer, and there were three clowns from Spain. They were great. This wasn't one of them.

Gathering

aceo Did you know that pawns jump? All over the place. Every time I looked, they were in different places. I didn't even dare get a drink for fear there wouldn't be any left when I came back. I was glad when I thought I had some positioning with them, and they started looking like pawns. Although one reminded me of Darth Vader when I was painting it.

Two Pairs

Relaunched. I thought the pears looked muddy in the original version, but I liked how they were done. I didn't do a thing with the pears but changed the background, and now they don't look muddy.

Duh

aceo Sometimes I wonder why there are so many duh moments in my life. Why was it so hard to see it? But I am glad for moments of illumination anyway.

Sunny

9 x 7 inches Since it was a traveling day when we saw the best sunflowers and the best weather, there was no time to stop and paint. My husband took the camera into the field, and meeting the sunflowers face to face, got some great shots.

Coffee Grinder

It grinds other things too. Like oat kernels for dog treats. A bit of work, and not the most favorite dog treats, though.
